You Are Not Less: When Elimination Leads to Elevation

By Melahni Ake, Everyday Leaders

Have you ever felt eliminated—cut out, cast off, counted out?

Whether from a job, a relationship, a friend group, or even a dream—elimination can hit hard. It doesn’t just remove you from something; it can shake your sense of identity and worth. Suddenly, questions start flooding your heart:

“What did I do wrong?”

“Was I not good enough?”

“Will I ever be chosen again?”

If that’s you today, I want to gently offer you this truth:

Being eliminated doesn’t mean you’re unworthy—it means you’re being repositioned.

Elimination is not rejection. It’s redirection.

It’s easy to believe that when we’re let go, left behind, or replaced, something must be wrong with us. But sometimes, elimination is the very door that leads to transformation.

Just because something or someone walked away doesn’t mean your value walked out the door with them. In fact, your worth is not determined by who keeps you—but by Who created you.

In Jeremiah 29:11, we’re reminded, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope.” That promise still stands, even when the path gets rerouted.

What can you do when you’ve been eliminated?

  1. Refuse to Shrink

Elimination often tempts us to withdraw—to make ourselves smaller, quieter, or invisible. Don’t. Stand tall in your truth. You are still full of purpose and power.

  2. Reclaim Your Identity

You are more than your last role, relationship, or rejection. Speak life over yourself. Write down what is still true: I am loved. I am capable. I am called. I am becoming.

  3. Reframe the Narrative

What if this isn’t the end, but a holy interruption? A divine setup? Consider this: sometimes God closes doors not because you’re not good enough—but because He’s preparing something greater.

  4. Reconnect with Vision

Elimination creates space. So now what? What have you put on pause? What dreams need dusting off? What purpose is waiting on the other side of this pain?

Friend, I know it hurts. I’ve been there too—eliminated from spaces I thought I belonged in, grieving the loss of things I poured my heart into.

A reflection from a moment in time when I was eliminated: April 2018.

But every elimination has led me closer to alignment.

Closer to authenticity.

Closer to purpose.

And it can do the same for you.

You are not forgotten. You are not finished. And you are not alone.

You’re just being redirected toward something better—something that fully honors the gift of who you are.

You were created for more—and your “next” is worth the wait.
